Pacific Sun Alpaca's Female Alpacas

At Pacific Sun we are breeding for crimp, density, uniformity and fineness in naturally colored fleece. We purchased our first alpacas in 2000, starting out with three females and are now up to 28 alpacas with five more on the way this year. I keep telling my husband they are like shoes, you need at least one of each color and type.

It has taken some time and research to figure out the direction of our breeding program. We understand the importance of the female lines as well as the male lines. We have learned about fiber and the various characteristics and are actively breeding to accentuate the positive traits to be expressed in our crias. We think we are on the right track, as we have some beautiful dark crias. In our female lines we have brought in Lionel, Rockamundo, Ice Man, Ultima, Alpamayo, Sandman, El Moustachio, Victor's Vaccoyo and Artic. If were are going to make the strides forward in our breeding program we must bred the best to the best.

Ice Cap

Ice Cap

Born June 18, 2004
Color light brown/ vicuna coloring
Dam CARMANAH C186 (black)
Sire HCLA BOLIVIAN ICE MAN (white)
Bred to:PERUVIAN Ultima
Due: Aug 12, 2008

Ice Cap is the newest addition to our foundation females and what an addition she is! She is light brown with a strong Vicuna influence as evident by her coloring.

Her fleece has outstanding character and good coverage. She is extremely dense with the most uniform fleece we have ever seen. She has strong bold crimp from the skin to the end of the fibre, which can be found from her top knot to the back of her legs.

She is out of International's best producing true black female, Carmanan and by High Country Llamas and Alpacas herd sire Bolivian Iceman.

She is bred to CPeruvian Ultima (Gavin), a full peruvian stud from Allianza bloodlines that are true to form in this male. Full face coverage, dense and crimpy.

Winnie

Miss Prairie Wind

Born Aug. 23, 1999
Color  Brown
Sire NGG Lionel
Dam Suzy Q. Brew
Bred Top Gun
Due June 8 2008

As the saying goes, "All things come to those that wait." We have had our eyes on this girl for years and last winter had the opportunity to add her to our foundation stock. We are very pleased as she will bring Lionel's body type and dense fibre to our herd. She has lots of colour in her back ground and is a lovely dark burnt umber colour.

She is also a strong producer of females except for this year. She has given us a beautiful brown male cria by Rockamundo, a true treasure as he has produced few dark colors. Fabio has a teddy bear head and like his sire, a good sheering weight to his dense fine fibre. Every fibre on his fleece is the same bright red brown color with a uniformed staple length through out his coat.

We are covering Prairie Wind with our grey male Top Gun to try to pull the color out of her, so fingers crossed look for another lovely dark cria in 2008.

Color silver grey
Dam Wild Rose Filigree (black)
Sire
The Phantom (black)
Bred SNF Seeker (grey)
Due Late spring of 2008

Indee is a strong well boned solid girl. Although solid, she is also very pretty with fine crimpy fibre and a nice long staple length. Her fibre is almost a blue color, a truly lovely shade of grey, with even color through out her blanket.

Indee is now at home with us on the coast after doing a bit of showing in Alberta and coming in 1st & 2nd. at the 2006 & 07 Northland Show.

Her sire is a wonderful black male, Phantom and she is bred to an equally great grey male, Seeker. Her dam is also black so perhaps breeding grey to grey she will produce a lovely black.

Katie Kate

Mystic Garden's Katie

Born June 20, 2005
Color  beige
Sire MMR Entero (white)
Dam V Island Belle (beige)
Bred Westwool's Fredrico (fawn) accoyo
Due May 9 2008

Katie is one of the most beautiful alpacas we had ever seen so we just had to have her in our breeding program. She has excellent conformation. Her high neck set creates a very straight top line and gives her a slender statuesque appearance.

Her 2007 fibre is 23.4/4.6/19.7. We are happy with her bright superfine crimpy fibre which has good density and excellent uniformity from shoulder to hip. It's hard to get both fineness and density, so we are very pleased indeed.

Katie has outstanding bloodlines through both her sire and dam. She is 3/4 Peruvian with a 1/4 accoyo through Ppperuvian El Moustachio, her great grand sire. She has color through her great grand sire Cortez, a true black. Her grandsire on the top is Alpamayo, one of Canadian top sires. Add this to who she is bred to, Westwool's Fredrico. He is a full accoyo male with incredible density, conformation, fibre quality and superior bloodlines to Accoyo's Juliaca and Ppervuian Felix.

So you can see Katie really does have it all, looks, fibre and breeding. How could we not have added her to our farm? Stay tuned for a lovely cria, (full peruvian/ part accoyo) in early June.

Tina is a special alpaca. She is a big-boned girl. She is independent and has given us three lovely crias, two boys and a girl, next years should be a girl if the pattern holds. She is a real homebody, often times I will find her munching hay in the barn while the rest of the herd is out on the pasture. Nothing seems to faze her; she is a strong steady girl.
